Dr. Sarah Chen is a board-certified urologist and urologic surgeon who joined UrologyMax in 2023. She brings exceptional training, a patient-centered approach, and a genuine passion for making expert urological care accessible to every patient, regardless of the complexity of their concern. Dr. Chen's clinical philosophy mirrors that of our practice: get patients in quickly, communicate transparently, and deliver the highest standard of evidence-based care.
Education
Dr. Tobon’s resume boasts an impressive educational background, having attended Columbia University for his undergraduate work and then attended Baylor College of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. He completed both general surgery and urology residencies there as well. Between 1997 and 2018, he imparted his considerable clinical knowledge to medical students and residents as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas, San Antonio.
Prior to joining UrologyMax, Dr. Chen practiced at a major academic medical center where she developed high-volume experience across the full spectrum of urological oncology, female urology, and minimally invasive stone surgery. Her exposure to a diverse urban patient population refined her ability to tailor treatment recommendations to the individual clinical and personal circumstances of each patient.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Chen's clinical specialties include robotic and laparoscopic surgery for urological cancers (prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular), comprehensive female urology (overactive bladder, pelvic floor dysfunction, interstitial cystitis, recurrent UTIs), kidney stone management, BPH treatment, and men's hormonal health. She is fluent in English and Mandarin, enabling her to serve a broader and more culturally diverse patient population.
Dr. Chen co-directs the UrologyMax Urgent Care initiative alongside Dr. Grant — a program designed to give patients same-day access to specialist-level urological evaluation for acute concerns, bypassing the generic urgent care experience entirely. She sees patients at both our main and satellite office locations and offers same-day and next-day appointments for new patients.
Dr. Tobon was born in Cali, Columbia, and immigrated to the United States at 11, becoming a citizen 12 years later. He is fluent in Spanish and takes advantage of his free time by spending it with family, reading, and cycling.
